Lot of Military Photos - 1960s 718th AC&W Squadron, Unalakleet, AK Radar Station

Product Description

718th Squadron Photo Lot

This is a lot of 42 photographs featuring the 718th Aircraft Control & Warning squadron at a radar station in Unalakleet, Alaska.

Unalakleet is located at the Norton Sound end of the Unalakleet-Kaltag Portage, an important winter travel route between Norton Sound and the Yukon River. The Russian-American Company built a trading post here at Unalakleet in the 1830s.

The photos are in black and white.

Many photos feature an Alaskan family and a couple members of the squadron.

Other photo show what the radar base looked like as well as the village.

Some captions written on the back of photos:
"Dining hall. It isn't any larger than this at site."
"Part of the building. Officer quarters on right, N.C.O. on left. 2 fellows on Mars Tower."
"Main Street of village / hills are snow drifts. In summer the street is level."
"Trading post in village (side view) / see the roof top of building on right side. Snow drift behind person."

Size: 5" x 4" (all are around this size)
